Wow! What a surprise! It's the first time I've recieved an entire comic strip as a gift! It's really clever and I love it!

Every day I walk past Reksio statue: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomnik_R… Reksio is ver popular in B-B, because raight for the character were easier to get than Bolek i Lolek. Ner the statue there is a pub where they are selling licensed Reksio toys. There's even a Reksio street and he became a mascot of a local football team. I think he may have been based on a real dog (like Fluffy XD )The cartooist said he's a fox terier. If you want to know more about cartoons from Bielsko-Biała, check their official site: www.sfr.com.pl/index.php?lang=… They've got the list of all their cartoons.

I'm glad you like it ;) And thanks much for the link too :)

Yeah, I've even saw a bronze-statue of him, just like the ones of Bolek and Lolek. Are they exposed on the same place?

BTW, the Hungarian channel M2 has just started to broadcast Bolek and Lolek since this summer, and recently they airde the episode, where Bolek and Lolek serve on a fishing boat, and the captain of it was watching TV, where a Reksio cartoon was aired :D

The staues are separated on two different squares. The squares are newly built and they don't have names. People are slowly starting to call the squares by the characters' names :)

You're right, those cartoons had many small jokes. In "Bolek and Lolek Travel Around The World" movie, The main cartoonist drawn himself as a Fileas Fogg from Verne's novel, and pictured a certain cartooinst who stole the rights for B&L from him, as an idiotic villain who want's to capture the boys :)

There was someone, who tried to copy B&L? I didn't know that, but it's a real shame :D

And did he succeed? I mean the cartoon, that he made based upon B&L was also published somewhere or broadcasted on TV?

It's a complicated case. Nehrebecki decided to create a cartoon inspired by his kids. The animators gathered and each one had to present their design of characters. They took a part of each drawing to create B&L's final look. Later, animators started to argue who's the owner of the rights. They were starting processes, producing their own B&L material. The fight took 30 years to settle! Some people say that Nehrebecki died because of the stress of the argument. Finally, in 00's, court divided the rights equally between the animators.

Now you know, why getting rights to Bolek and Lolek is so hard! You need to have permissions from three different owners!

Of course, they were many rip-offs and unauthorized stuff with the characters. The most famous one was when a German gay magazine used the characters illegally and described them as two gays.

Yeah, but according to that, Nehrbecki only planned the concept of the cartoon, but it wasn't him who drew the characters?

Btw, back to Reksio, I've seen many memes via google about the rivalry between Polish and Czechs in sports featuring him and Krtek. There was also a poster that advertised a football match between the two countries, where they had bloody teeth and nails :D

Do you know anything about the origin using them that way?

Nehrebecki also drew his version. The look of the characters is a mix of drawings of the three cartooinsts. They worked all together on animating the characters for the episodes.

In Poland, Krtek is considered one of the main symbols of the Czech Republic. Every kid knows him and associates him with Czech, so maybe that's why the football guys are using him.

Yeah, it actually explains the reason of it :D

BTW, they've recently started to air the series of B&L, where they're among miners, but only a few episodes are remaining yet of it. Unfortunately they air the series randomly, so not in time-order, and some episodes of almost each series are missing too :(
